Heels are easy: find a height that allows for some modicum of grace, and you’re set. But boots! These babies are typically designed for gals with, shall we say, full-figured calves. Which means you’re walking around the an inch or more extra room than your shapely gams need. Truly, as they’re tag states, “style is nothing without fit”. I couldn’t agree more!
Enter Duo Boots. This online boutique fits super-cute boots to your unique calf size. Follow their measurement guidelines, select a style, size and color, and custom calf-fitted boots will arrive your door, ready for rattle-free walking.
Have a sexy style in mind? Duo’s selection is comprehensive: knee-high, kitten heels, wedges, platform, suede, soft leather, lace details… I’m crushing on the Lille black leather knee-high number. Lovely black leather, super swank four-inch heel and square-ish toe. Gorgeous and perfectly affordable at 147 UK, on sale. Sizing begins at a US 35. If your calves are way skinny or slightly larger than average this label is aaallll you!
Actually, to ease the post-holiday cha-ching, Duo has marked down all boot designs. Sale + custom calf-fitted boots = what are you waiting for?

Fernanda Carneiro
Fernanda Carneiro will be launching an e-shop in the next few weeks. Sign up for her mailing list on her website and receive a discount on your first online purchase!
I’m also happy to announce that Fernanda’s dresses have had a lotta press recently, including features in Lucky magazine, and appearances on TV shows like Privileged and EXTRA! She’s been featured in yesterday’s Miami issue of Daily Candy. Yay Fernanda!
Nhulie vs. Balzac
This news is big ladies, big in a petite way… Balzac Clothing LLC acquired the new label Nhulie in late October. Yep that’s right, the petite line has had a name change. I spoke to Lynn Colclough about it, here’s what she told me…
Nhulie is going to be offered online through the website www.nhulie.com and the Balzac label is going to provide a source for the wholesale business. The addition of the label will also allow me to distinguish two different styles of clothing as well as provide the opportunity to appeal to different market segments.
As always, we’re excited for you Lynn. Stay tuned in the coming months for more info on Nhulie! And as a side note, she has a 20% off coupon on her website. Stop in and sign up to be on her mailing list to receive the discount!
Moi-Même
Back in November Moi-Même hosted a design competition for their fans to create a new embroidery design for the Calgary jacket. And it was a huge success! The winner was designer Marcy Grant of Chicago. Congrats Marcy!
Moi-Même also asked their mailing list to select the charity that they should support this year. The winner? Doctors Without Borders! Thus, now through April every time you place a custom-clothing order from Moi-Même 5% of your order will be donated to Doctors Without Borders. DWB is an international humanitarian independent org that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, disasters and exclusion from health care.

No. Really. The Way We Wore is having a *gasp* sale. Oh my good gracious me. I really didn’t think I’d see the day… For those that are unfamiliar, this is the boutique that all Hollywood starlets (and wanna be’s) buy their vintage designer gowns. Its also a bit like a museum but where you can touch and try on everything. So unbelievably amazing. And many designers run small. If you’ve never been, I suggest you go to check out the selection; it really is five star. If you want that perfect mint condition vintage gown you’ve always had your heart set on, go to the 50% off sale. You will see me there. So very exciting. Can’t wait!!!!!

It’s rare that I visit San Francisco, peruse Union Square and leave without having fallen in love with a boutique or designer at least twice. My last trip was no exception, though I did pour all of my love into one shop in particular: Joy Chen in Union Square on Maiden Lane. But this shop is unique in that it’s a family affair. Joy is the designer; her dad, the shoemaker. Which means there’s an extra bit of love in each pair.
Shopping Joy Chen was like a dream: contemporary designs, high-quality materials, construction intent on comfort. I walked away with two pair of gorgeous designs: the Sassy Danielle, a blue-and-grey Mary Jane design, featuring a fat leather strap and a sultry tapered heel; and the Elegant Amanda, a black calf-hair design with a slightly chunky heel and generous peep toe. I’m in love, double-duty. And I’m thrilled that Joy features sized 4.5 and up — making her an ideal designer for tiny tootsies.
San Francisco’s shopping cred warrants the drive or short flight if you’re in California. Otherwise, browse online and call or email. The shop will gladly ship to you that perfect pair.

Ashely K from Oberlin, OH is the winner of a Lucia bra and panty set courtesy of The Little Bra Company! She wrote…I’ve definitely tied my bra straps together in the back, racer-back style! You’re not alone! I’ve also tried pinning the straps onto the back of the bra to make them an inch or so shorter, but the pins always pop open and poke my back
Oh gosh, I’ve tried everything! I’d love to win one of these bras, what a fabulous invention for us tiny girls!
Congrats Ashely! We know you’ll love your new lingerie. Thanks to everyone who entered and stay tuned for more five star giveaways in 2009!
