petite bloggers: spring purchases

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

I had the chance to catch up with a few petite bloggers on what they’ve been purchasing for spring this week.

bebe Petite Wrap Dress

Christa Jean at Petite Fashionista

My most recent purchase was a pink wrap dress from Bebe. I’m a huge fan of wrap & shirt dress styles and this dress combines the details of both. This dress embodies the features that will flatter almost any petite frame. This will be my go-to dress to feel comfortable and look pulled together.

Plus you can make it look sexy depending on how you accessorize. For example, for a date you can wear it as shown or for a more demure look, try a basic cami underneath, pull your hair into a low ponytail, simple shoes and voila–insta chic!

Forever 21 Natasha Tunic

Christina at Shorty Pantz

I simply adore is this cute little dress by Forever 21 in my new favorite neutral for spring - grey! It’s sold as a tunic top, but is the perfect length for a petite dress. The ruching on the bust adds curves where I want them, and the empire cut creates a narrow-looking waist. For a night out, I slip on the dress, accessorize with a long, beaded necklace, throw on some silver flats, and I’m ready to go!

I’m an 8P. The dress size I bought was a medium and I purchased it at Forever 21 in West Edmonton Mall. It’s wash and wear!

Gelaskins

Ma Petite Chou

My most recent purchase is an accessory for my laptop. I bought three really cute laptop skins from www.gelaskins.com. It’s a site that sells artist-designed laptop and iPod skins. I think they’re really cool. Styles range from anime style, abstract art and classic paintings. If your readers are looking to dress up their gadgets this is the place!

Cristi Conaway Top

serafina

I purchased a Cristi Conaway top at the Beige super sale. Its absolutely gorgeous. It pairs well with everything in my closet and all of my jewelry. And the XS fits perfect in the arm, bust and hip.

Seven For All Mankind Petite Jeans

Cynthia at Shorty Stories

I just got a pair of Seven For All Mankind Flip Flop jeans from Muskat Brown. The waist size is 24 in a petite length, and the inseam is approximately 30”. They’re excellent and I don’t have to hem them!

yoox: belts

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

It seems everywhere I turn, another attractive woman is showing off her svelte figure with a waist belt, synching its design and color with a fabulous top or dress. They’re ubiquitous this season. So, I did a bit of research and found a fabulous selection on YOOX.COM. Seriously, ladies, I could’ve “researched” Yoox for hours.

last minute gift idea: ipod nano

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

If you are stuck trying to find the right gift to give this holiday I have a great option for you to consider: the iPod nano. I received one yesterday as a gift and I have to say I didn’t know how much I wanted one of these little beauties until now.

iPod nano

The iPod nano is as elegant and functional as it is petite. Its thin light weight design fits in any tiny clutch. I love the high resolution picture and great sound quality which will be great long flights and airport lay overs. Its available in a rainbow of colors and with either 4 GB or 8 GB of memory. You’ll never have to be without the Style Network…

stockin’ stuffers

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

Been sportin’ your hosiery up under your armpits, waistband like a noose around your neck? Find yourself battling Aunt Helda’s cankles by noon? For the looooongest time, I could not find a pair of decent stockings or tights that fit my petite, yet oh-so- sexy frame. I know I live in L.A., but temperature variables are a personal matter, and I know that by the time the leaves should be falling off our ever green trees, I am cold, and I want tights. Good tight tights.

One of the fashion industry’s biggest lies: One-Size-Fits-All legwear. Bologna. They fit a minute number of women. Few things are more annoying than rolled waistbands, saggy crotches, and wrinkled ankles.

Tights and stockings need to be a perfect fit. If you’re on the border between two sizes, take the larger size. With shiny or metallic tights it is especially important to wear the correct size to stretch the Lycra to a high shine.

Whether you reside in the U.S. or the U.K., there are three hosiery sites that you should have at your fingertips. All three sites have a bevy of options for petite-sized stockings and tights: wool, silk, sheer, metallic, and all in a rainbow of colors: MyTights, StockinGirl and Tights Please.

MyTights.com
MyTights.com has hosiery suitable for every size, shape, and occasion. For those under five feet, MyTights has an über-petite section built right into the navigation. If you are under 5′0″ try Spanx, Skintone, and Levante.

If you are 5′0″ and above you have loads of options! Try Aristoc, Falke, Gerbe, Le Bourget, and Pretty Polly.

Fortunately the MyTights Petite Legging Finder for women less than 5′0″.

Levante matte stockings

The brand Levante is also great for women sized 4′9″ and above. The matte suede stockings are glorious. No matter what size you are, you’ll always check the sizing chart for each product.

Need something posh and cozy? Try the Aristoc cashmere and wool thigh highs. And they actually stay up! (I suggest Small/Medium as they run small.)

StockinGirl.com
StockinGirl also carries a wide selection of stockings and tights for petite-legged gals. The reps at StockinGirl confirmed that their petite sizes generally fit women 4′9″ – 5′2″ between 90 – 110 pounds. This brand will be soon sold in Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Nordstroms.

StockinGirl Sandalfoot Stockings

It’s glamour time. If ever an ultra-sheer sandal-foot stocking should fit perfectly, it’s under a gorgeous holiday cocktail dress. Or are you looking for a sexy French heel replete with back seams and a racy lace top?

StockinGirl Opaque Tights

Brrr. Winter is here. Cold weather opaque stockings and brightly hued opaque tights to the rescue.

Soft-as-silk, luxurious Merino wool and cotton cable-knit tights. (Each of these run small; a small will fit a 00P, and may be just a smidgen tight.)

StockinGirl Cable Tights

Both MyTights and Tights Please sell mostly (or all) European brands, which fit a lot better (not too tight at the waistband, and the smaller sizes are actually small), and are way better quality for the price, than tights made for the U.S. market.

Foot Petals
Not pedals, as in foot-straps for your bicycle, but petals. As in, saving dainty divas from a night of 3-inch-heel torture. These heavenly pieces fit nicely in all shoe sizes (yes, that includes you, Ms. Size 5), and they are loads more comfortable than those standard insoles. Offered in a variety of styles and designs (for us style conscious gals), these handy little shoe pads are great in all types of shoes. Because being beautiful shouldn’t be painful. And because achy feet suck.

foot petals tip toes

I prefer the Tip Toes. With these, I can shift from a day at my busy office to a night out in Hollywood — without pleading for a barstool.

You can find them at Target, Zappos, and on their official website.

Coin Purse
Yes, I’m a city girl. No, I never have money for a parking meter. And while shopping on Robertson, the meter maids are quick to remind me of this little detail, slapping a $40 up-charge while shopping.

But I digress.

I’ve invested in a variety of change purses, which have been more than helpful –especially when in a rush. I always have a quarter for the meter. The only problem? You have to remember to fill it up.

Don’t want to spend more than a handful of change on your new accessory? Try a trip to Chinatown. I found my latest mini-clutch there for $2. You’ll have luck at any shop in Chung King Plaza.

hayden harnett

If you’d prefer something a bit plusher, Hayden Harnett has a great selection of coin purses that will accessorize any purse. And, it costs only as much as your next potential parking ticket.

Flo's Purse Hanger

Purse Hanger
I don’t are how ‘hip’ and ‘clean’ a restaurant always is, I don’t want to rest my Chloe purse on just any old floor. Fortunately, those days are over. The purse saver? None other than Flo’s Fabulous Purse Hangers. These hangers come in a variety of styles, and they fit perfectly in even the smallest-sized purse. These miraculous little hangers bend to lay flat and, with the slightest touch, voila! transforms itself into a purse hook. You can find Flo’s hangers online at her official website.

dean la store front

If you yearn for modern, fine-crafted leather accessories and bags, look no further than dean. This Los Angeles-based company sells the good stuff — pre-eminent-quality leather in purses, watchbands, belts, bracelet cuffs, and more.

Dean accessories fit. I especially like the Women’s Studded Cuff and the wide leather watch bands. They are comfortable and look great with just about everything in my closet. In fact, both the cuffs and watchbands grace my six-inch wrist without the requisite extra hole in the band.

With your wrists appropriately accessorized, dean. goes a step further with equal accommodation for your waist. They carry two belts that they can fit to your waist size on the spot. The Spine and Link belts can be adjusted by removing links upon purchase. They’ll do this for you in minutes at the Sunset shop. Both come in a large variety of multicolored leather.

There is a smattering of stores around LA that sell dean. — Ethel and Fred Segal to name a few. However, the best place to purchase dean. is at their flagship store on Sunset in Silverlake:
